Annual Heiva Festival Taking Place in Tahiti

The annual Heiva I Tahiti, festival, a traditional Polynesian song and dance contest began today in the heart of Papeete. The festival includes a contest among traditional Polynesian dance groups from around the Tahitian islands. The nights of competition at Place To'ata will also involve individuals competing for the prestigious titles of best male and female dancers.The Heiva dancing and singing contest will end with the traditional awards ceremony. The winning groups, announced during the awards ceremony, will then return to Place To'ata for a final performance.

The festival also features a variety of sport competitions including fruit carrying races, javelin throwing, stone lifting, and outrigger canoe races.

The festival is scheduled to take place until July 31^st.

Seeing the July 2010 Solar Eclipse

On July 11th, 2010, a total solar eclipse will occur and be visible over much of the southern Pacific Ocean. In French Polynesia, the eclipse will only be visible on a few of the small islands in the Tuamotus including Hao and Tatakotu.

Due to the few accommodations on these islands, the best way to experience the solar eclipse is by cruise. Bungalow Renovations at the Moorea Hilton

The Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort has announced, effective September 21st, all garden and beach bungalows will be closed for renovations until early 2010.

Upon reopening in early 2010, all garden Bungalows will be remodeled and will feature new bathrooms and new terraces with small private pools. The Hilton Moorea will join the Moorea Pearl Resort as the only resorts on the island to offer Garden Pool Bungalows at their properties. During this period, all overwater bungalow accommodations will be still be available for booking.

The overwater bungalows recently underwent their own renovation and modernization. All Overwater Bungalows now features new bathrooms, furniture and interiors.
