Fakarava

Fakarava’s most notable dive site is the northern pass of Garuae which, at 800 meters, is the wideest in French Polynesia.  The pass features particularly rare flora and fauna.  Vistors can also tours the island’s Pearl farms, which are the main source of income for the local population.

To protect the island’s environment (Fakarava is a biosphere reserve of UNESCO), the lone resort (the Le Maitai Dream) was built to respect its surroundings and does not have any overwater bungalows.
