Te Puna o Te Rara’a – 4th edition – Organized by the Te Rara’a Association, this annual fair is an exhibition of art and crafts, including baskets, hats, mats, and fans made by local artists. At this event, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the local culture and even take a piece of it home with you.

International Billfish Tournament – The International Billfish Tournament, which takes place on the 12th of March off the island of Tahiti, combines friendly competition with the sport of fishing. While the event observes the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) rules to preserve the wildlife and marine-bed of the ocean, this won’t stop competitors from hunting down billfish and other deep sea fish! Winners come home with bonuses and/or trophies.

Moorea Golf Pro/Am – If you’re Moorea bound on the 12th and fishing doesn’t strike your fancy, the Moorea Pro/Am is the event for you. This is a must see on your Tahiti vacation for anyone who has dreamed of living ocean side and writing novels for the rest of your life.  James Norman Hall was an Army pilot who was shot down and held prisoner during World War I.  In 1920 he moved to Tahiti and co-authored the famous novel, Mutiny on the Bounty.  He has also written many other tales about the South Seas.

Paul Gauguin Museum

Located in Papeari, Tahiti, The Paul Gauguin Museum is a Japanese styled art museum that is dedicated to the late French artist Paul Gauguin.  Here you will find original workings of the artist, which include sculptures, drawings, or woodcarvings as well as a reproduction of his home.

Also located in this museum are original paintings of Tahiti and Moorea by Constance Gordon-Cummings. You will also find copies of Gauguin’s work, and original art work by Cummings and other Tahitians on sale here.

Known originally as the Bora Bora IronMana, the Bora Bora Liquid Festival was originally created by world-class aquatic athlete Stephan Lambert in 2000, as the only Va’a-1 (one-man traditional Polynesian outrigger) endurance paddling event in the world covering over 56km, or 34 miles.

Today the event has grown over the past decade into a festival celebrating Tahitian culture as well as sporting excellence.

2011 Bora Bora Liquid Festival Schedule of Events:

The festival officially opens on Wednesday, December 14th this year, but there will certainly be several unofficial events and activities in the days upcoming the official opening.

While the majority of the first day’s activities centered around families and children, competitions for aquatic professional athletes, guests, and amateurs kick-off on Thursday, December 15th at the Beach at Sofitel Marara. Among this year’s events include:

• 6 KM for solo swim for men and women; Mixed teams of 2; and Family and Friends Teams of 4
• Short Course One Man Canoe and Stand Up Paddle Races
• Short Course Surfski, 3-Man Canoe Races
• Matira Beach Shot Downs! Which are one-on-one 25-meter sprints where competitors go mano-a-mano until only one winner is left in each category including: Surfski, SUP and Swim.

On Saturday, December 17th, the Liquid Festival hits it’s finale with 40 and 50KM races for men and women, culminating in a festival awards ceremony and beach party.

This last day honors the spirit of IronMana, an elite competition held in Bora Bora for over a decade that combines the skill and commitment of top athletes with the ancient spirit and traditional Tahitian values known as Mana, manifested on these islands for centuries.
